In this thought-provoking documentary which impressed audiences and won the Grand Jury Prize at the SXSW Film Festival, Peabody Award winning documentarian Margaret Brown (THE ORDER OF MYTHS) explores the fallout of the explosion of Deepwater Horizon, a state-of-the-art offshore drilling rig operated by BP in the Gulf of Mexico. Interweaving personal stories with insight from industry insiders and news footage of the disaster and its aftermath, Brown creates an intimate and emotional look at the many people still haunted by the explosion long after the story has faded from the front page. About the film:
Oscar nominee Sam Cullman delivers a delicately balanced documentary with ART AND CRAFT, a look at one of the most prolific art forgers in America. After decades of conning the art industry with an impressive body of work in a wide range of styles – most of which was then donated to institutions across the United State – Mark Landis is exposed by a tenacious registrar from Cincinnati. Amid questions of motive, diagnosed schizophrenia, and a chorus of museum professionals clamoring for him to stop, this cat-and-mouse caper emerges an intimate story of obsession and the universal need for community, appreciation, and purpose.
ART & CRAFT is now playing at the Angelika New York.
ABOUT THE FILM:
A multi-generational story of love and marriage, LOVE IS STRANGE depicts the delicate nature of two people trying to build a life together. Filmmaker Ira Sachs (KEEP THE LIGHTS ON) crafts the story Ben and George, played by Oscar nominee John Lithgow and Alfred Molina (AN EDUCATION), who upon returning from their honeymoon learn that Ben has been fired from his lifetime job at co-ed Catholic school. With no real savings to count on, the couple suddenly can’t afford their small New York City apartment and they are forced to call upon their tight-knit community of family and friends.
Sign up here for a chance to win an official movie poster signed by Brendan Gleeson and director John Michael McDonagh. Entries will also be collected in the lobby of participating locations now playing CALVARY.
A darkly comedic drama from John Michael McDonagh (THE GUARD), international film sensation CALVARY follows the story of Father James, a priest driven by spiritual integrity whose world is turned upside down when his life is threatened during confessional. Brendan Gleeson (THE GUARD) brilliantly inhabits the fascinating role of a good priest tormented by a cynical, spiteful community. As he continues to minster to the towns lost souls in the week leading up to his threatened murder, he struggles to reconcile himself with God’s will.
Our programmer in Dallas, Adam Conway, had the opportunity to sit down with McDonagh and discuss his initial idea for CALVARY, his writing process, and his ongoing collaboration with Brendan Gleeson. Check it out below:
