DOCTOR WHO fans swarm the Village East for BBC America Season 6 Premiere

Monday night, DOCTOR WHO fans from across the country traveled in throngs to the Angelika New York’s sister theatre, the Village East Cinema.  The occasion?  BBC America treated enthusiasts of the cult-classic British sci-fi TV show to a free advance screening of this season’s two-part premiere followed by a Q&A with the cast.

The Doctor (Matt Smith) and his companions Amy (Karen Gillan), Rory (Arthur Darvill) and River Song (Alex Kingston) were in attendance with the fans to celebrate the first DOCTOR WHO episode filmed in American - and to kick off the first season to be broadcast by BBC America simultaneously with the BBC UK broadcast.

Whovians began lining up the day before, camping out on the hard city streets of Manhattan’s East Village for this very exciting event.  We filled three of our largest auditoriums and even added a second show to accommodate the crowds (many in costume!), who were mostly patient and never lacking in enthusiasm. Judging from the cheers we heard inside throughout the screening, the audience was not disappointed!

Check out the below video chronicling the exciting event, and head over to the Village East and BBC America Facebook pages for photos of the cast and fans at the premiere.

If you couldn’t make it to the Village East on Monday, don’t miss the all-new season of DOCTOR WHO, starting Saturday April 23 at 9/8c only on BBC America.

This film marks Schnabel’s first narrative features since 2007’s impressive THE DIVING BELL AND THE BUTTERFLY, which earned the director an Academy Award nomination in addition to a slew of critics’ associations and film festival awards.

Don’t miss this incredible opportunity to see an important and moving film - and hear from the director about his artistic process, the film’s production, and working with emerging actress Freida Pinto.

Q&A’s WILL BE HELD:

Friday, March 25 following the 8:00PM show

Saturday, March 26 following the 5:45PM show

Sunday, March 27 following the 5:45PM show

ABOUT MIRAL:

Academy Award nominee Julian Schnabel (THE DIVING BELL AND THE BUTTERFLY) directs Willem Defoe, Academy Award winner Vanessa Redgrave, and SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE sensation Fredia Pinto in this stirring, politically-minded drama. Inspired and written by the Palestinian-born, Western-based TV journalist Rula Jebreal, MIRAL chronicles the story of four women whose lives intertwine in the starkly human search for justice, hope and reconciliation amid a world overshadowed by conflict, rage and war.

NO IMPACT MAN at the Angelika, New York

No Impact Man

A year in Manhattan without lattes, elevators or new shoes? Apparently it can be done. NO IMPACT MAN, Colin Beavan and his wife, Michelle Conlin, bravely went where no New Yorker (at least by choice) has gone before. Their film follows this family of three (baby daughter included) for one year on an incredible, funny, honest journey as they go, sometimes reluctantly, to the ends of the earth in attempt to save it.

Friday 9.11 and Saturday 9.12, Colin & Michelle will attend the 7:20pm shows of NO IMPACT MAN to discuss their unusual experiences, their struggles and bonds and the hopeful impact of no impact.
