Bel Powley and filmmaker Marielle Heller stopped by our Texas locations in support of their new film THE DIARY OF A TEENAGE GIRL!
Blending live action with animation, filmmaker Marielle Heller’s funny and provocative adaptation of Phoebe Gloeckner’s graphic novel is a nuanced tale of burgeoning sexuality and boundary testing. Like most teenage girls, Minnie is longing for love, acceptance, and a sense of purpose in the world. She begins a complex love affair with her mother’s (Kristen Wiig, THE SKELETON TWINS) boyfriend Monroe (Alexander Skarsgård, MELANCHOLIA) and takes command of her sexuality and creativity. Set in countercultural San Francisco, this intelligent feature debut was one of the breakout hits from the 2015 Sundance Film Festival.
In our interview, Gadi Elkon of seligfilmnews.com chats with Bel and Marielle about the intimate sex scenes in the film, the power of a young woman owning her sexuality, the family involvement from Heller’s real family, and the fact that the film is shot in San Francisco.
