Screenwriter, Director, and star of Alone Together Katie Holmes visited the Angelika Film Center on July 22nd, 2022 to discuss the creative processes and influences of the Covid-19 pandemic on the creation of the film in discussion with Lisa Rosman after a showing of the film.

When Covid-19 hit in March of 2020, everybody was left in a place of deep uncertainty for the future, especially for people’s jobs. Many creatives took this uncertainty into their own hands, using their time to reflect on the situation at hand – Katie Holmes was one of them. Having never written her own screenplay before, she worked tirelessly on crafting a story and script that she felt could bring light to such a bleak situation. She worked over Zoom with friends who have experience with screenwriting to expand and perfect her script before beginning production. Working through pre-production is never easy, but when all of your cast and crew members are stuck working remotely, having to commune and audition over the phone and over Zoom creates a whole new group of issues and problems that she, her cast, and her crew had to work around.
