The Oscars 2019

The nominations are in! 2018 Academy Awards

Its the Olympics of movies! The nominations are in for the 2018 Academy Awards!

Like the Golden Globes, THE SHAPE OF WATER is leading the pack with a whopping 13 nominations including Best Picture, Best Director (Guillermo del Toro), Best Actress (Sally Hawkins) and Best Supporting Actress (Octavia Spencer).

With eight nominations, Christopher Nolan’s DUNKIRK is the second-most nominated, after being a bit snubbed throughout awards season, until now of course! Do you think this epic wartime drama will take home Best Picture?

Closely trailing in nomination-numbers is THREE BILLBOARDS OUTSIDE EBBING, MISSOURI’s seven. Both received nods for Best Picture, and with its Golden Globe momentum, THREE BILLBOARDS certainly has a fair chance of taking it home! Lead actress Frances McDormand was again nominated for Best Actress, following her Golden Globe win.

In a history-making move, Jordan Peele’s GET OUT received a Best Picture nod, the first horror film to receive a nomination in that category since 1999’s SIXTH SENSE! The last horror film to take home Best Picture was SILENCE OF THE LAMBS in 1992.

Another groundbreaking milestone was hit in the Best Cinematography category, which marks MUDBOUND’s Rachel Morrison the first female to ever be nominated in that category! Ever!

Other multi-nominees include DARKEST HOUR, with 6 nominations including Best Picture and Best Actor (Gary Oldman); PHANTOM THREAD, also with 6 nominations including Best Picture and Best Director (Paul Thomas Anderson); LADY BIRD, with 5 nominations including Best Picture and Best Director (Greta Gerwig); and BLADE RUNNER 2049 with 5 nominations including Best Cinematography and Best Production Design.

The Academy Awards will take place on March 4, 2018.
