Fire of Love Q&A with Director Sara Dosa, Writer Erin Casper, and Producer Ina Fichman

Some may refer to love as fiery, fierce, or flaming hot – but for Maurice and Katia Krafft, the notion rang true in a literal sense. Fire of Love tells the story of the Kraffts – volcanologists who found love in their search to understand the natural world. From the 1970s to their tragic deaths in 1991, Katia and Maurice Krafft traveled the world in search of answers as to how we can prepare for volcanic eruptions, studying these massive beasts of nature, and documenting their discoveries and findings on camera for us to behold.

On July 6th, 2022, Fire of Love premiered at the Angelika Film Center in New York City, followed by a Q&A from director Sara Dosa, co-writer Erin Casper, and producer Ina Fichman, in which they discussed what it was like to create an archival documentary about these iconic and heroic scientists.

Katia and Maurice’s legacy lives on not only through their scientific discoveries and influence on the scientific community, but also through stunning visuals. It’s not every day that you can dance along the lava flow, geared up and vaguely resembling an alien from an old 1960s sci-fi movie – but that is what Katia and Maurice did. They celebrated nature in every moment of their lives, and now as an audience we get to experience and celebrate alongside them – and that legacy will live on forever.
