The feel-good film of the summer

Director, Writer & Co-Producer Gurinder Chadha (Bend It Like Beckham) and actor Aaron Phagura stopped by the Angelika Dallas to discuss their newest film, Blinded by the Light.

The film tells the story of a young Pakistani boy, Javed, growing up in London in the late 1980’s where racial tensions were at peak and the Pakistani community were at odds with the locals. Javed discovers the music of The Boss, Bruce Springsteen and it inspires him to stand up for what he believes in and go for his dreams, instead of being stuck in a life he doesn’t want.

Director Gurinder Chadha discusses making the film with all the of Springsteen’s music before even getting permission to use it, assuming that once The Boss saw the film, he would love it. Thankfully, Chadha was correct!

Chadha adapted the screenplay from the novel, and brought the characters and the setting to life on the big screen. Now 90% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, Blinded by the Light is being heralded by critics as “a spirited coming-of-age triumph.”

BLINDED BY THE LIGHT is now playing at Angelika Mosaic, Angelika Pop-Up, Angelika Dallas, and Angelika Carmel Mountain.
